2017 starts with a nail-biting crime story. A modern day Shakespeare. It is 1984 and Jens and Elizabeth are falling in love. Not long after, Elisabeths parents are found murdered. The two lovers are found guilty. Or are they? Follow the story from first love to life sentence.

“I felt like the hero on Charles Dickens novel A Tale Of Two Cities, who gave hos life for love”

- Jens Soering

"A Shakespearean drama of modern age.”

- Kultur 24 Berlin

“A gruesome double killing with unanswered questions until today, a court proceeding full of mistakes and the story of a fatal juvenile love: this documentary can easily be compared with fictional thriller” -

Marcus Vetter & Karin Steinberger / Germany/USA / 2016

Derek and Nancy Haysom were brutally murdered in their house in Lynchburg, Virginia, on March 30th 1985. Suspicion fell on their daughter Elizabeth and her boyfriend Jens Söring. They flee to Europe, but are caught and extradited to the U.S. Elizabeth is sentenced to 90 years in jail for incitement to murder, Jens Söring to two life sentences. Karin Steinberger, Marcus Vetter and their team spent over three years researching this case, which achieved world-wide notoriety. They uncovered new evidence, including the fact none of the blood samples found at the scene of the crime belonged to Jens Söring. A controversial doc about a great love and perhaps a great injustice, and an American legal system spun out of control.
